4 slices reduced-fat cheese

Savvy swaps

You can swap:

Crackers
Wholegrain crispbread
Cheese
Cottage cheese

Tips

  • Use the Health Star Rating to choose the healthiest brand of crackers. The more stars the healthier it is.
  • Cheese provides calcium. Calcium is needed for healthy bones and teeth.
  • Reduced-fat cheese is lower in saturated fat than regular cheese.

  • Store crackers in an airtight container.

  • Making your own crackers and cheese is much cheaper than buying cheese and cracker snack packs.
  • Buying block cheese and slicing it yourself will be cheaper than buying pre-sliced cheese.

Method

Step 1
Slice the cheese to fit the crackers.

Step 2
Top the crackers with cheese.

Serving suggestion: add toppings like sliced tomato, avocado, cucumber, pear or apple.

Food safety tip: if you are packing for lunch, cheese needs to be kept cold so pack an ice brick.
