5 recipes using budget-friendly frozen vegies

When you’re trying to eat well on a budget, frozen vegetables can be a real game‑changer. They’re affordable, convenient and make it easier to add more vegies to meals without worrying about food waste or last‑minute trips to the shops.

Below are five recipes using frozen vegetables, making it easier to get more vegies into your day.

1. Fried rice

Fried rice is a great option if you have leftover rice from the night before. You can also use precooked or packaged rice if you have on hand. Just add eggs and your choice of frozen vegies for a quick, easy and nutritious meal.

Budget tip: Look for supermarket own‑brand frozen vegetables – they’re often just as nutritious at a lower cost.

2. Tuna pilaf

  1.5 serves of vegies

Our tuna pilaf is a simple budget-friendly recipe using tuna, brown rice and frozen vegetables. It’s ideal for when you are short on fresh vegies, and leftovers make a perfect lunch the next day.

Did you know? Frozen vegies can be stored for months, meaning you can use what you need and keep the rest frozen, helping reduce food waste and save money.


3. Vegetable chow mein

Vegetable chow mein is a tasty combination of noodles and frozen vegetables, and a healthy alternative to packet 2-minute noodles. Quick and easy to prepare and full of flavour and nutrition.

Frozen vegies are just as nutritious: Despite the myth that fresh vegetables are always better, frozen vegies are typically snap-frozen soon after harvest, which helps lock in key nutrients like fibre, vitamins and minerals.


4. Vegetable fritters

Vegetable fritters are a great way to get the kids eating vegetables and ideal for using frozen veg. They’re delicious for brekkie, lunch or as a healthy snack.

Save time in kitchen: Frozen vegetables are pre‑washed, chopped and ready to go, which means less prep time and easier weeknight meals. They’re perfect for quick dinners, packed lunches and batch cooking.


5. Savoury mince

Serving suggestion: Serve with brown rice, mashed potato or mashed sweet potato and top with a dollop of light sour cream.
